In my early adult life, I accepted literal translations about most things. What my parents said, what my church told me, what my bosses explained to me about the economy. Eventually, a switch turned on in my brain as I began to notice my experiences were not lining up with what I had been led to believe.
Have you noticed that something has set off a combustive energy in the last few weeks? A different vibe that seems to be lighting up what we are seeing, feeling and experiencing? It feels like ‘lightening” up as if a weight is coming off my shoulders. My sense of worrisome trivial nothings disappeared. It is a shift of energy, invisible and yet physically palpable.
People around me are smiling, laughing and doing happy dances. Something has altered my vision. Maybe it’s that my ‘visioning’ has popped back into my reality. People are vibing. I’ve learning about linguistic versatility. For example: Eating is a need; enjoying eating is an art. A nuance of verbal framing is seeping into reality. Or maybe it’s just the Super, full moon illuminating the planet that is near?
Our connected social landscape via technology highlights teenage speak encoded in slang with terms like throwing shade, living rent free in your brain, or code-switching. The informal social language among people who are in a social group breeds familiarity. Social media spreads thoughts like a runaway virus. I am intrigued and curious when words like ‘brat’ pop into popular culture. What’s the underlying message?
In the more sophisticated adult world, gaslighting, decoding misinformation and disinformation is surfacing what we see and understand as truth. Encoded bias is becoming visible to eyes that once could not see. When I discovered the etymology of the word ‘apocalyptic’ during the pause of COVID, I began to see the world differently. The unveiling and revealing of what had not been seen was eye-opening to step outside of knowing what I thought I knew.
My big question is ‘what wants to happen?” For the planet, for the youth, for the aging? What are the possibilities for the future?
