It’s been 25 years since my husband passed. A long pause ensued.
9-11 brought the nation into a long pause.
Unpresented shootings at schools brought more pauses.
The corona virus marked a pause that lasted years.
January 6 shocked our beloved America into still another pause.
This year, 2023, has shaken me to remember natural pauses. Circadian rhythms in my body. Seasonal rhythms of birthing and deathing. Lunar cycles that I can reflect upon from fullness into darkness. Gravitational pulls expressed vividly in ocean tides.
While the world is topsy-turvy, upside down and inside out, the natural rhythms allow me to experience multiple perspectives about the global, universal, and cosmic realities. Beyond time and space, just over the rainbow, I am discovering peaceful variations of stillness and flowing movement. Somehow there is a reflection between my inner sensibilities matched by the far out seemingly unreachable. Pauses that give space where there are no boundaries between me and the unknown.
As Carl Jung once noted, “You must go in quest of yourself, and you will find yourself again only in the simple and forgotten things.”
Remember to pause, sit in the in-between where rememberings often occur. May we be mindful about the pauses we choose to create in the coming cycle of a new year.
Thanks for a great reminder, especially as we mark a new year and all it promises. I tend to keep myself busy, so some of my work is in remembering to pause.
It is always the simple and forgotten things ❤️
